Written by 3 girls in Room 16.
FFF....... Freezing! Leilani banged her head on the roof of the car as she made her way in. Next, Alyssa squeezed through the tight little gap (OUCH!). As Hannah got I, she landed flat on her face trying to get into the back seat. You wouldn't believe it a seven seated car where we all had to squeeze in.
Finally we were there. In a split second our toes were numb, filled with frosty, freezing cold water. Slowly we weaved in and out of all the people to try and get to the rest of the school ( the people from our school competing in zones). Ahhh.... We took a deep breath and sat down. Right away we started getting comfortable on the bright blue mat until the announcer of the cross country screamed loudly in the microphone " Everyone make your way towards the start line for the warm up". Then the butterflies tingled around our body. " Alyssa and Leilani make sure everybody stays with you" Miss Wilson said firmly. But all Alyssa and Hannah could hear was Leilani saying, "Here's a tip, here's a tip" from the beginning to the end.
As soon as we got back, the squeaky microphone rang in our ears " Year 5 boys come to the start line for your race" Blake and Andrews legs were exhausted you could tell by their faces. Take your marks..... GO!
It was much faster then anybody had expected. They sprinted off zomming down the muddy track. Slowly they made their way through the center of the track and all we saw was mud slashing everywhere. Blake was in a good position for the race but the mud got the better of him. Andrew was still in a good position. Just as we got over to the finish line, 3 boys zoomed down. Our fingers were crossed. Nervously waiting. Hoping it was either Blake or Andrew. Our hopes were high..... Another boy came round the corner and two boys came sprinting down the home straight. We couldn't believe it, one of them was Blake! What a finish! Blake sprinted a boy out at the end. We were jumping up and down with delighted. Tthe first race and Blake came 6th. WHOOP! WHOOP! We all cheered. " You're going to centrals"
At last a couple of boys came past, then Andrew came in. His face was exhausted, making us girls get nervous. Right after the race, the year 5 girls had to get prepared and pumped up for their race. We went to half way to watch the girls ( Emma, Paige and Delrubba) The girls came zomming past us. WOW! There goes the first one. Emma goes around the corner, our school stared in amazement yelling " Hold your pace".
Next Paige came past . We ranted the same thing, she waved and said happily " HI" We all laugh out loud. We started to get warmed up and put our warm fluffy Spreydon school jackets in our bags. People started to cheer, we walked over to the finish line, down came Emma in 6th place. Once again we happily danced our nerves away. In a flash we saw Paige come 14 and Delubba come 18.
We got a massive fright, the year 6 boys weren't anywhere. Confusingly we all thought " Where on earth are they?" In the corner of Alyssas eyes she saw people sprinting, they came round the corner with year 6 name tags. " That explains it" Our throats were extremely sore but we still ranted once both of them came " Go Cornelious!" " Go Zane!" .
After a while, they came down the hill. Everybody was wondering 'where are they?' but then they rushed down the home straight with sweet trickling down their faces. As soon as the boys from Spreydon finished. Alyssa, Hannah and I went down to the start. Standing there everyone was quiet and nervous.
GO! OMG! We wish we had run down the short cut like everyone else had. Now we have to catch up to everyone! As soon as we came out the parents and other children from Spreydon were cheering us on. Now we headed to the deadly hill bit. It was getting so tiring and we were feeling the pain. Finally we were running down the home straight and Aylssa came 4th, Leilani 7th and Hannah 15th.
Overall it was a fantastic day and Spreydon did so well! We had great supporters and we loved representing Spreydon School. We are looking forward to Centrals.
