This term our topic is The Zoo and Orana Park. Our challenge this term is to create our own zoo enclosure. We are also learning to write non chronological reports and creating collages of our animals.
We are having so much fun already and we haven't even been to Orana Park yet.
So far we have learnt how to take notes. We have realised this is a very important process when it comes to writing a report.
We have created subheadings to separate our information and used books and the internet to find out our information. As we are digital citizen's, we understand that there is a LOT of information on the internet. So we have been learning how to filter this to cater for our reading level. We used the 'more' tools on Google to change the search to cater for our reading age. As a class, we also discussed and created a list of websites that were better suited for our age. We found a lot of web pages that are suited for us and make things so easy to understand.
After we had read up on our animals, we then made notes in our books. We know that you don't have to write long sentences or even use words like 'a', 'the;, 'at' etc as they are not needed. It's the one time our teacher actually wants us to write less and keep it simple! We likened it to talking like a 'caveman'.
This week we are meeting with our teacher in our writing groups to learn how to take all our notes and write a really awesome report on our animals.
