This week we have been thinking really hard about how to create enclosures for our Zoo animals.
First we had to put on our 'science' hats as we had to learn about the animals habitat. Habitat is the place where the animal lives. We also learnt that animals can adapt to their habitat in order to survive. Like a Kiwi has a good sense of smell because their eye sight is not very good. Or how penguins have webbed feet for powerful swimming.
We have been learning about our own animals habitat and how they have adapted to them. That way we will have a better understanding of them and how to create an enclosure specifically designed for them.
As a class we looked at a range of different enclosures and read about them. We then worked with a buddy and tried to work out what animals would best suit these enclosures and why. We also looked at what animals wouldn't and the reasons behind this.
This gave us a better idea about the type of enclosures we will need to design for our own animals. Some of us are lucky as when we go to Orana Park next Tuesday our animal is there. That means we can take photos of their enclosure to help us with our design.
Most of us are now at the stage where we are noting down all the things we will need in our enclosure. We also have to think how they will be cleaned, how the zoo keeper will feed them and also stay safe as well as how will the public view them.
